Safe Sitter Classes Offered

May 31, 2019 (YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio) Knowing what to do in an emergency while caring for young children is crucial, but not all sitters are prepared.

Safe Sitter courses equip girls and boys entering grade six or higher with the information and skills all sitters should have: basic First Aid, rescue breathing, accident prevention, childcare tips, what to do if a child chokes, and how and when to call for help.

The daylong course will be offered on six different occasions throughout the summer through the support of Mercy Health Foundation Mahoning Valley.

At St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, Safe Sitter courses will take place 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on June 18, July 16 and July 30. The course will take place June 25, July 23 and Aug. 6 at St. Joseph Warren Hospital.

Cost for the course is $30 per student. Scholarships are also provided through Mercy Health Foundation Mahoning Valley for children from families who cannot pay. Class size is limited and registration is required. Call 330-480-3070.

For information on how to support this or other programs that improve the health of Mahoning Valley residents and ensure access to anyone in need, call Mercy Health Foundation Mahoning Valley at 330- 729-1180.
