Mercy Health Foundation Awards $113K in Scholarships

Date May 23, 2019 (YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio) Mercy Health Foundation Mahoning Valley awarded $113,375 in scholarships to 63 area nursing students for the 2019-2020 academic year during a dinner and presentation ceremony yesterday at the Basilica of Our Lady of Mount Carmel.

Scholarships were awarded to Mercy Health employees, members of their immediate families and students attending Mercy College of Ohio, St. Elizabeth campus.

“Providing scholarships to students who want to advance their skills as caregivers not only helps them to achieve their dreams, but more important, helps ensure that we have the most highly skilled nurses providing the best care possible to our patients,” observes Paul Homick Jr., president, Mercy Health Foundation Mahoning Valley.

This is the 22nd year Mercy Health Foundation presented scholarships to nursing students. Since its inception the program has collectively awarded more than $1.3 million in scholarships to Mahoning Valley students, Mercy Health employees and their families.

Of the students awarded scholarships, five are pursuing doctoral degrees, 22 are pursuing master’s degrees, 14 are pursuing bachelor’s degrees, and 22 are pursuing associate degrees.
