Improve Community Health & Wellbeing

Our support improves the communities in which we live and work by addressing health disparities, promoting healthy living and supporting revitalization projects.

The Cherry Street Legacy Project

The Cherry Street Legacy Project

Toledo’s first hospital--today’s Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center—was founded on Cherry Street in 1855. Building on its legacy of caring and compassion, Mercy actively works with local businesses and community groups to revitalize a two-mile stretch of Cherry Street in Toledo’s central city. The dream of a healthier, safer, more walkable and sustainable neighborhood is becoming a reality.

Fruit & Vegetable Rx Program

Fruit & Vegetable Rx Program

This program was established to help diabetic patients control and manage their condition to drive down healthcare costs and to help patients live healthier lives. Participants complete a seven week class about nutrition and diabetes management. They are given a bag of groceries each week with fresh fruits and vegetables. They continue to receive free produce for the next year if they attend monthly programs.  Doctors write a prescription for this program as they would for any medication.

Mobile Health Van

Mobile Health Van

School Health Fund

School Health Fund

This fund was established to help support school health initiatives. Mercy partnered with Oregon City Schools in 2015 and opened the region’s first health center in collaboration with a school district. The healthcare center is staffed by a certified pediatric nurse practitioner and offers parents of OCS students and the community convenient access to pediatric healthcare.

Grey Nun Community Fund

Grey Nun Community Fund

The Grey Nun Community Fund was established to perpetuate the mission, values, and philosophy of the Grey Nuns by making grants to organizations in northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan that are devoted to improving and protecting the health and welfare of people. The Community Fund prefers to partner with organizations and make proactive grants through an open application process for eligible nonprofit organizations.
