Cuddle Cot

The Family Birthing Center at Mercy Health Tiffin Hospital is a place of joy as moms and dads welcome their newest family member or members into the world. Mercy Tiffin features a caring, compassionate staff that, combined with the home like atmosphere of the birthing center, provides a very comfortable setting for the birth of a child. Occasionally and unfortunately, parents lose a child. In this case, bereaved parents have the option of spending time with their baby. This time allows the family to form an important bond with their baby. In a warm room, the baby’s condition may deteriorate quickly, which parents often find distressing. Therefore, cooling the baby is essential, however parents don’t want the trauma of being separated from their baby while he or she is placed in a morgue refrigerator. With this in mind, the Mercy Health Foundation Tiffin has provided for the purchase of a cuddle cot. The cuddle cot system cools the baby allowing the baby to remain with the family thereby providing them with the time they need during a time of loss. As one mother said, “The cuddle cot gave us the irreplaceable gift of time. We all have limited time on earth with our loved ones but when decades are condensed into hours every extra minute is precious and necessary. We were granted time in a quiet and private place to say goodbye to our child. We were granted time to just look at him and memorize as best as we could his beautiful form.” In realizing the value of all life and the compassion needed in such difficult situations, the Mercy Health Foundation Tiffin is pleased to be able to provide funding for the cuddle cot.
