Motivational Interviewing: Engaging Patients in Reducing Health Risk Behaviors

To ensure the effective delivery of Motivational Interviewing requires intensive training. Mercy Health Foundation is offering more than 20 hours of high-level training, with training dates spaced in order to allow for the practice of skills between learning sessions (and for accommodation of July 4th holiday).

This intensive training will introduce participants to the theory, principles, and skills of Motivational Interviewing and related motivation-enhancing behavior change approaches. Participants will be guided through a sequence of learning activities to explore and shape counseling practice behavior, and to initiate a process for developing proficiency in Motivational Interviewing.


Kriss Haren: Ms. Haren is a member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT). She is a Professional Clinical Counselor with Supervisor status, and has over 25 years of experience in the mental health field. Kriss is currently the Principal for Collaborative Communication and Training Services, LLC, providing specialized services designed to enhance patient engagement skills for medical and allied health professionals.

Target Audience

This training is designed for those professionals who are in the role of counseling clients or patients in making and sustaining healthy behavior changes: physicians, nurses, health educators, care managers, dieticians, social workers, counselors, psychologists, community health workers, etc.

Participant Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this event, participants will understand how to employ Motivational Interviewing techniques to communicate with patients and clients.
